Orji Uzor Kalu, the former governor of Abia and candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for Abia North, has been declared winner of the state north senatorial election.
Channels TV reports that the returning officer for the senatorial election, Charles Anumodu, on Sunday, February 24, declared Kalu winner.
Kalu polled a total 31,203 votes to defeat the incumbent Ohuabunwa who polled 20,801 votes and the candidate of the All Progressive Grand Alliance, David Ogba, who scored 11,410 votes.
The APGA came third amongst others who contested the senatorial position. According to our correspondent in the state, Senate Mao Ohabunwa of the PDP is calling for the cancellation of the Abia North elections result.
Legit.ng recalled that ten youths were arrested in Abia state for allegedly attempting to snatch ballot boxes. The youths were arrested at different locations in Bende local government area of the state.
Meanwhile, Legit.ng had reported that about Ugwumba Uche Nwosu, the governorship candidate of AA in Imo, delivered his polling unit in Nkwerre local government area of Imo state state to President Buhari.
Nwosu won his polling unit in Eziama Obaire in Nkwerre local government area of the state for President Buhari with 711 against PDP candidate Atiku Abubakar’s 50 votes.
It was learnt that the counting of votes was delayed due to a heavy downpour which started at about 2.30 pm on Saturday, February 23.
