Former minister Okonjo-Iweala's parents vote, call for peaceful elections, tolerance

The parents of Nigeria's former minister of finance Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala have called for peaceful 2019 general elections as they exercised their franchise on Saturday, February 23.

Legit.ng gathers that the disclosure was made by the ex-minister, who stated that Professor Chukwuma Okonjo, (father) and Kamene Okonjo (mother) are 90 and 88 years respectively.

Professor Okonjo was quoted as saying: “Nigeria is our only country and we have a responsibility to make it a peaceful and prosperous nation. Great countries were built by patriotic citizens who believe in the unity of their nation. No meaningful dev can be achieved in an atmosphere of violence & political bitterness.

“Nigeria is our only country and we have a responsibility to make it a peaceful and prosperous nation. Great countries were built by patriotic citizens who believe in the unity of their nation. No meaningful dev can be achieved in an atmosphere of violence & political bitterness.

“We are all Nigerians and what should be uppermost in our minds is the progress and greatness of our nation. This greatness can only be achieved when we live together in peace and unity without minding our political differences.

"Today, I have come to cast my vote because I believe in the Nigerian project. I want a united Nigeria where every citizen would have a sense of belonging. As a nation, we want a leader that will have the interest of our nation at heart. My concern is for a better Nigeria.

"Let us eschew political bitterness and remember that Nigeria is our only country and we have a responsibility to make it peaceful for all.”

Meanwhile, Legit.ng previously reported thay Oyo state former governor and gubernatorial candidate of Action Democratic Party (ADP), Alao Akala, delivered his polling unit in the state to the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar.

Akala delivered his polling unit 13, ward 10, Ogbomoso North, to Atiku and his (Akala's) party's candidate for the senatorial election.

The PDP had 189 votes, ADP polled 60 votes, while APC had 33 votes.

ADP had 222 votes in the Oyo North Senatorial district poll, while PDP and APC had 46 votes and 37 votes respectively.
