Real Madrid shot-stopper, Thibaut Courtois, has been crowned the Best Goalkeeper of 2018 by the International Federation of Football History and Statistics.

The Belgium international, who sealed a move from Chelsea to Los Blancos last summer garnered 181 votes.

Reports reveal that he beats Tottenham Hotspur keeper Hugo Lloris and PSG's Gianluigi Buffon to the prize.

Meanwhile, both Lloris and Buffon finished second and third respectively after the voting process was concluded.

IFFHS revealed football experts drawn from 90 countries participated in the voting process.

According to a statement on Madrid's website, Courtouis claimed the award after his stellar performance in 2018 where he helped his country finish third in the FIFA World Cup in Russia.

At the time, the Belgian star also won the Golden Globe award for best keeper following his exploits in the summer tournament.

Courtois' no.2 at Madrid, Keylor Navas, came in at fourth place with 58 votes, with Atletico Madrid's Jan Oblak and Barcelona's Marc-Andre ter Stegen tying at fifth with 49 votes.

Meanwhile, Lloris was the only Premier League goalkeeper who made the top list as Manchester United's David de Gea missing out despite being named in the FIFA FIFPro World 11.

2018 Ballon d'Or winner Luka Modric was also feted during the event, winning the IFFHS World's Best Play-maker 2018 award.

Legit.ng earlier reported that Real Madrid supporters have once again expressed their displeasure towards Thibaut Courtois following his shambolic display against Villarreal on Thursday night.

The former Chelsea goalkeeper allowed an 82nd minute header into his net as both sides shared the spoils after regulation period.

Spanish attacker Santi Carzola opened scoring for the Yellow Submarine as early as the fourth minute.
