The Rivers state police command has confirmed that an army lieutenant and two others were killed in the violence that rocked Abonnema in Akuku Torlu local government area of the state.
This was contained in a statement sent to journalists by the police spokesperson in the state, DSP Nnamdi Omoni on Saturday February 23.
The statement noted that two other personnel of the Nigerian Army were injured in a shoot out with unknown gunmen.
The police also confirmed the death of two APC chieftains earlier reported by Legit.ng.

The party chieftain, Mr. Mowon Omowo Etete, a former local government chairman in Andoni local government area of the state, was killed alongside his elder brother by men residents in the area, say are suspected militants.
The Independent National Electoral Commission have since cancelled elections in the areas affected by violence in the state.
