The police at a polling unit 009 Karu, near Abuja, arrested nine suspected hoodlums for being in possession of knives while the Presidential and National Assembly elections were in progress on Saturday.
One of the security personnel at the unit, who preferred anonymity, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that they were alerted by some eligible voters that the boys were planning to obstruct the process.
According to him, one of the boys had already brought out his knife with the intention of fighting and intimidating voters.
He noted that the boys were quickly arrested and presently under the custody of security personnel.
Josiah Galadima, a voter, lauded the efforts of the security personnel for thwarting the plans of the hoodlums claiming or alleging that their intention was to snatch ballot boxes.
However, Mr Emmanuel Adekoya says “I am not detered, no matter the security threat posed by hoodlums; I must exercise my franchise”
Meanwhile, 10 youths were arrested in Abia state for allegedly attempting to snatch ballot boxes.
The youths were arrested at different locations in Bende local government area of the state.
The alleged attempt comes in spite of a directive from President Muhammadu Buhari just before the elections, ordering security operatives to show no mercy to anyone who attempts to steal ballot boxes during the exercise.

President Buhari had warned that those planning to make away with ballot boxes during the elections will do so at the cost of their lives.
The president stated that anyone who engages in the act will not live to commit another crime.
