The expulsion was contained in.a letter dated Tuesday, February 12 jointly signed by the acting national chairman of the SDP, Professor Tunde Adeniran and the national secretary, Alhaji Shehu Gabam.

Part of the statement read: “The NWC has reviewed the recent activities of Professor Gana in the party and is constrained to invoke Article 19.4 of the party’s 2018 constitution as amended to cause the expulsion of Professor Gana from the party.

“In taking the decision to expel Gana, the NWC considered his behavior as constituting gross misconduct viz his failure to explore internal mechanisms to resolve perceived issues but resort to unnecessary and costly litigation, anti-party activities by allying with the People’s Democratic Party against the decision of the party leading a pack of disgruntled and discredited elements to factionalize the party, disloyalty and utter disrespect to the party ideals and its leadership.

“Gana's expulsion is in line with the relevant provision of the party's constitution; and will be reviewed or ratified by the National Executive Council in due course.”

The statement also noted that a window of appeal by Gana which should have happened within five days of the receipt of the letter by Professor Gana has lapsed.

“The right of appeal against this disciplinary decision in writing within five working days to Professor Tunde Adeniran OFR; acting national chairman, SDP, has lapsed, as Professor Gana failed to appeal his expulsion within the stipulated time,” the party stated.
