Police vow to arrest killers of APC ward chairman in Imo

- Suspected killers of Ifeanyi Ozoemena, chairman of APC in Logara/Umuohiagu ward, will be arrested and made to face justice, the Imo police has vowed

- Ozoemena was killed by unknown gunmen on Tuesday night, February 19

- According to the state commissioner of police, the security forces have been deployed to restore peace in the area

The Imo police command has declared that it has launched surveillance to arrest suspected killers of Ifeanyi Ozoemena, chairman of the All Progressives Congress in Logara/Umuohiagu ward in Ngor-Okpala local government area of the state.

Dasuki Galandachi, the commissioner of police in Imo, gave the assurance in Owerri on Thursday, February 21, in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).

Ozoemena was murdered by suspected gunmen on Tuesday night, February 19, after presiding over a party meeting in the ward in preparation for the postponed elections. The situation threw APC members in the council area into mourning.

The commissioner of police has, however, called for calm. Galandachi said that the suspects would soon be arrested, adding that security forces had been deployed to restore peace in the area.

According to him, "I assure the family members of Ozoemena, APC members and the general public that the suspected killers of the APC chieftain will be tracked down soon."

Meanwhile, Legit.ng had reported that the APC chairman in Logara/Umuohiagu ward in Ngor Okpala council area of Imo state, Ifeanyi Ozoemena, was on Tuesday night, February 19, assassinated by unknown gunmen.

The APC chieftain was killed shortly after presiding over a meeting of the party in the ward. It was stated that the party chieftain was killed in his house right before his family members.

The said murder of the APC chieftain has reportedly caused fear in the state ahead of the presidential and National Assembly elections. A community leader, Chief Martin Opara, who confirmed the incident, said the killing had caused panic in the state.

He urged security agencies to apprehend the killers of the APC chieftain without any delay, noting that the community had never witnessed such political killing.
