- Politicians across political parties have been expressing confidence that their parties will coast home to victory in the Saturday, February 23 elections
- A chieftain of the APC, Femi Bamisile, says President Muhammadu Buhari will be victorious during the presidential election
- Bamisile, former speaker of Ekiti State House Assembly, says votes from the north and south will ensure President Buhari's victory
As Nigerians prepare to cast their ballots on Saturday, February 23, former speaker of the Ekiti State House of Assembly, Hon Femi Bamisile, has said President Muhammadu Buhari's victory will be ensured by votes from the north and south.
Bamisile expressed confidence that the president will get huge votes from the north, dismissing claims that the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) had taken over the region, Leadership reports.
Legit.ng gathers that the APC chieftain supported the statement made by President Buhari over ballot box snatchers.
Bamisile who is APC House of Representatives candidate in Ekiti South federal constituency II, said the statement was a confirmation that the APC-led federal government was committed to free, fair and credible elections.
He said: “The president didn’t give a shooting order the way former President Olusegun Obasanjo gave a shoot on sight order against the Oodua Peoples Congress (OPC) when he was president.
“President Buhari only said that those who snatched ballot boxes will have themselves to blame. So, I stand hundred per cent behind him on this order. We are not in the 19th Century when things were absurd. It is a barbaric act for anyone to snatch ballot boxes."
Meanwhile, Legit.ng previously reported that the national chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, said the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)'s presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, vindicated the ruling party’s claim that the opposition was working with some officials of Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to compromise the presidential and National Assembly elections.
Oshiomhole, who addressed reporters on the night of Tuesday, February 19, said it had become clearer that the only mission of the PDP's candidate "is to cause confusion in the electoral system so that he would become president even if it means presiding over graves".
He said only those who want to deploy thugs to undermine the elections would oppose and find fault with the statement of the president aimed at discouraging thuggery during the election.
Oshiomhole said the attention of the international community at the moment was that elections across the world should be violent-free and assured that the forthcoming elections would be conducted in a free and fair atmosphere.
He said: "It is only those who believe in thuggery that will find fault with the president’s directive. Is there anyone that would want to vote for thuggery? "
