Elections 2019: Our endorsement of Atiku, Obi is sacrosanct - Ohanaeze

- Ohanaeze Ndigbo has reiterated its support for Atiku Abubakar and his running mate, Peter Obi, in the February 23 election

- Ohanaeze said it is supporting Atiku and Obi candidacy for accepting to restructure Nigeria

- The Igbo group warned against any form of rigging in the coming elections

The Igbo socio-cultural group, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, has said it's position to support the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)'s presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar and his running mate, Peter Obi, is sacrosanct and in tandem with the decision of other ethnic organisations.

In a statement signed by Ohanaeze's spokesperson, Chuks Ibegbu, the group urged Nigerians to go out and vote en masse on February 23, Vanguard reports.

Ibegu said: “Our position on the presidential election has already been made known. Ohanaeze earlier endorsed the presidential candidacy of Alhaji Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi for accepting to restructure Nigeria.That position is sacrosanct and in tandem with the decision of the other major ethnic nationality organisations in Nigeria viz, PANDEF, NEF, Middle Belt Forum and Afenifere.

“Ohanaeze also warns against further shift of the elections for whatever reason. We also warn against any rigging of any type. The democratic will of Nigerians should on no account be trammeled. Votes must count this time around.”

Meanwhile, Legit.ng earlier reported that the youth wing of the Ohanaeze Ndigbo worldwide said it has mobilized at least 20 million young voters of Igbo extraction ahead of the forthcoming presidential election, Comrade Arthur Uchenna Obiorah, its national president has said.

Obiorah urged the youths to be resolute and ensure that they deliver on the resolution of the organisation just as he expressed disappointment with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) over the postponed election.

Obiorah, who spoke in a telephone interview in Awka, Anambra state, asked the people of the southeast to remain calm and pursue the agenda of group in favour of Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi.
