Election 2019: Gov Ortom sympathizes with APC over chairman's murder

- Unknown gunmen recently killed the chairman of the APC in Ohimini local government area of Benue state

- The chairman, Boniface Okloho, was killed while returning from a party function

- Benue state governor, Samuel Ortom, has commiserated with the APC over the death of Okloho

Benue governor, Samuel Ortom has commiserated with the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state over the murder of the party's chairman in Ohimini local government area, Mr Boniface Okloho.

Governor Ortom in a statement sent to Legit.ng by his spokesman, Terver Akase, on Monday, February 18, strongly condemned the killing and urged security agencies to ensure that those responsible are apprehended for prosecution.

He described the act as barbaric, anti-democratic and capable of derailing the electoral process in the area.

The governor said violence in any form has no place in democracy, stressing that those who take the lives of others on account of politics are the real enemies of the state.

Governor Ortom sympathized with the Okloho family, the people of Ohimini as well as the leadership and members of APC in Benue state.

He prayed God to grant the soul of the deceased eternal rest.

Meanwhile, Governor Ortom has assured Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in various camps across Benue state that his administration is collaborating with security agencies to guarantee their safety as they take part in the forthcoming 2019 general elections.

The governor gave the assurance on Friday, February 15, when he visited the IDPs camps in Ugba and Anyiin in Logo local government area of the state.

The governor reaffirmed his commitment to the welfare of the displaced persons, saying that though keeping them in the camps for over a year had taken a toll on finances of the state, the government would not relent until security is fully restored in all their communities to enable them return home.
