The management of the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) has denied reports that it has allegedly misused all the funds allocated to the Commission for the 2019 general elections.
In a statement by its spokesperson, Corps Commander Bisi Kazeem, on Saturday, February 16, the Commission expressed worries at attempts to turn the staff against the management of the agency.
The statement read: "The attention of the FRSC Management has been drawn to a malicious report being circulated by unidentified persons on the social media over a purported squandering of the staff election duties allowances by the FRSC Management.
"While we could have ignored the writeup as the handwork of some disgruntled elements bent on inciting staff of the FRSC against Management and throwing the name of the Corps in the mud so as to serve their ill-conceived motives, we are constrained to react in order to shed light and correct the lies and misconceptions peddled in the so called report.
"For the avoidance of doubt, we wish to state without mincing words that FRSC has been a stakeholder in election matters in the country and in fact, a member of the Interagency Consultative Committee on Election Security (ICCES) through which its roles as a member of the security agencies have been outlined. But till date, the Corps has not received any funds towards the 2019 elections.though the Corps has made appropriate presentations to the government on its financial requirements for the elections.
"However, in demonstration of its commitment to supporting the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) towards conducting free, fair and credible elections, and conscious of the need to strengthen the capacity of staff deployed for the election duties, especially with the special requests made by INEC Chairman, Professor Mahmood Yakubu during his presentation before the FRSC Management on 31January, 2019, Management went ahead to organise a one day capacity development program nationwide on 13 February 2019 for the affected staff in anticipation of release of the funds.
"It should be reiterated that FRSC Management appreciates the commitment, enthusiasm and dedication of the entire staff of the Corps, especially those deployed for the election duties towards supporting INEC to achieve its goals of organising a successful election. Let it be known that there was no way that Management under Dr Boboye Oyeyemi would have stooped so low as to squander the election duty allowances of staff as is being insinuated by the writer. FRSC as a people- centred organisation has always held the banner of accountability, transparency and due diligence in its activities and these continue to serve as guide to the policies and programmes of the present Management under Dr Boboye Oyeyemi, which many stakeholders have attested to."
