The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) vice presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has been described as an Igbo project by a group of Igbo leaders.
The Nation reports that the leaders made the assertion at a town hall meeting in Enugu on Thursday, February 14.
Legit.ng gathers that the meeting was presided over by Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu and other attendees, which included Senator Jim Nwobodo and Dr Okwesilieze Nwobodo.
A communique was issued at the end of the meeting by the president of Igbo Improvement Union, Ugochukwu Agballah.
The union called on Igbo in the seven states of Anambra, Abia, Enugu, Ebonyi, Delta, Imo and Rivers States to ensure the “effective mobilisation and successful execution of this Igbo Project.”
The union also urged Nigerians of Igbo extraction to disregard “calls by anybody or group to boycott the elections as this would hurt the socio-economic and political wellbeing of Ndigbo.”
The communique read: “Every Igbo person of voting age should vote for the PDP. The choice of Mr. Peter Obi as the vice presidential candidate of the PDP is a blessing to the nation and should be embraced by every right thinking Igbo patriot.”
Meanwhile, Legit.ng previously reported that the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, was tipped to win the presidential election on Saturday, February 16, by the national chairman of the Peoples Democratic Movement (PDM), Chief Frank Igwebuike
Igwebuike made the assertion when he led some members of PDM’s National Working Committee to the Atiku Presidential Campaign Office in Abuja, the nation’s capital.
According to him, Atiku has the energy, courage and experience to move Nigeria forward.
He said: “We are here today, having resolved as a political party for the interest of Nigeria and Nigerians that we have looked at all the candidates vying for the election in 2019, and noticed that Atiku Abubakar is the best within the political space to occupy the position of president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
