It is treason to attack president, VP - Falana speaks over incident in Abeokuta

- Femi Falana wants all those who took part in the attack on President Buhari in Ogun state arrested

- Falana says the governor of Ogun state, Ibikunle Amosun, cannot absolve himself of any blame in the incident

- The senior lawyer also blames Buhari for welcoming Amosun and the candidate of the APM recently in Abuja

Nigeria’s senior lawyer, Femi Falana, has expressed regret that none of the individuals who attacked President Muhammadu Buhari and other members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ogun recently had been arrested.

Falana argued that it is treason for anyone to attack the president and his deputy as done allegedly by the supporters of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) during the campaign rally of the APC.

Legit.ng understands that the lawywer reacted to the attack on Thursday, February 14, arguing that the governor of Ogun state, Ibikunle Amosun, cannot absolve himself of the blame as the chief security officer of the state.

According to Falana, Amosun prepared the stage for confusion when he went to Abuja with the governorship candidate of the APM, Adekunle Akinlade.

Falana also blamed the president for welcoming the governor and Akinlade and even taking a photograph with them.

“The governor ought to have been told long before the campaign that his activities were anti-party,” Falana said just as he blamed the security agencies in the state for not handling the event effectively.

Legit.ng earlier reported that Olusegun Osinkolu, the director general of the Buhari/Osinbajo campaign council in Ekiti state, recently warned that the anti-party posture of Governor Ibikunle Amosun of Ogun could lead to the defeat of the APC in the state.

Osinkolu further warned that that the crisis in the APC in Ogun could lead to less votes for Buhari in the election.

He described the activities of Amosun and his opposition to the APC governorship candidate in Ogun, Dapo Abiodun, as unfortunate.

“We are worried that our members go as far as trying to stone a whole president. I am seeing a lot of anti-party playing out here in the south west and it is not going to be in our interest.

“But the bulk stops on the table of Governor Amosun, because he ought to manage that situation better being the chief security officer of the state. He didn’t handle the issue very well.

“Whether you are a president or governor or holding any other position, the party is supreme, because the crisis was fallout of the primary.

"Governor Amosun must repent and change his ways, because South-west is important to APC in these coming elections," he said.

Also, the police command in Ogun recently appealed to the people in the state to desist from thuggery and violence to ensure peaceful conduct of election on Saturday, February 16.

Bimbola Oyeyemi, the police public relations officer for the command, on Thursday, February 14, made the appeal.
