- Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has held special training sessions with Manchester United strikers
- The Norwegian is keen on improving on the strikers positional play
- Solskjaer has always preferred a 3-man attack involving Anthony Martial, Marcus Rashford and Jesse Lingard
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has commenced an extra training session for Manchester United strikers in a move to assist the players to improve.
According to Metro, the 45-year-old Solskjaer, who replaced Jose Mourinho last December has placed more emphasis on his strikers after transforming Man United’s approach to games.
The Norwegian has always hammered on the need for his team to always keep the pressure on opponents with or without the ball.
Solskjaer, at the last count, has always preferred a 3-man attack involving Anthony Martial, Marcus Rashford and Jesse Lingard.
But going forward, the interim boss believes Man United squad need more improvement despite helping strikers with additional sessions to improve play, anticipation and movement.
Interestingly, while Mourinho prefers Romelu Lukaku in a more central role, Solskjaer likes his forwards to be more intelligent and smarter on turning defence into attack within few minutes.

At the moment, Solskjaer’s special session with the strikers runs for 15 to 20 minutes each time, summing up another dynamic move by the Norwegian to improve the club going forward.
Speaking further, Solskjaer who hailed Kylian Mbappe’s movement during PSG’s second goal on the UCL clash on Tuesday is keen on his forwards to follow the Frenchman’s path.
"There was a couple of times down our right-hand side we created something, but we never filled the box. Runs into the box, run in to get a tap-in like Mbappe did for his goal," said Solskjaer.
"The second goal, that was quality by them. The ground he makes up that boy [Mbappe] to get into the box is for all the strikers that want to be out there, that’s how to get into the box and get those five or six extra goals. I’ve been talking about how our strikers should try to get that," he said, even as he was quick to add that Martial needs to make more runs into the box to boost his scoring ability.
"I’d like him to make a few more runs in behind because he doesn’t miss chances,’" noted Solskjaer.
"He’s a fantastic finisher. He needs to get more chances, you’ve got to read and sniff maybe [score] some scruffy goals at times.
"Him and Marcus score loads of ‘worldie’ goals but those tap-ins and making them runs could go a long way to do that [boosting his scoring figures]."
