2019 polls: Vice presidential candidate dumps party to support Buhari's re-election

- President Muhammadu Buhari has been endorsed by a vice presidential candidate ahead of the 2019 general elections

- The vice presidential candidate of Grassroots Democratic Party of Nigeria, Alhaji Ibrahim Modibbo, dumped the party's presidential candidate and GDPN for Buhari

- According to him, Buhari's stewardship since coming to power in 2015 is the reason he is supporting the president

As Nigerians prepare for the 2019 general elections, the vice presidential candidate of Grassroots Democratic Party of Nigeria (GDPN), Alhaji Ibrahim Modibbo, has dumped the party's presidential candidate and GDPN for President Muhammadu Buhari and the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Leadership reports that Modibbo declared his support for Buhari and the ruling party in Abuja on Tuesday, February 12.

Legit.ng gathers that the vice presidential candidate said his reason for supporting Buhari was because of the president's performance since taking over mantle of leadership in 2015.

According to him, re-electing Buhari will re-launch the country into another phase of development.

He said: “Buhari’s performance within three years in office shows that re-electing him will bring more positive impacts on Nigerians, especially in area of agricultural development and improved economy.

“I have decided to joined him because of what he is doing, and there is need to support him do more."

Modibbo was commended by the coordinator of Youths and Women Presidential Campaign Team, Bubba Marwa, who received him and his supporters.

Marwa assured of better days ahead for Nigerians who believe in President Buhari's leadership.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng previously reported that President Muhammadu Buhari was endorsed for the forthcoming 2019 general elections by the United Pastors for Good Governance Support in Nigeria (UPGSN).

The disclosure was made in Abuja on Wednesday, February 13, by the president of the group, Rev James Muya.

The group urged all Nigerians to vote for President Buhari at the February 16 presidential election because of his performance.

Muya said: “We have gone through the allegations against Buhari and found out they are untrue. In case you were told that Buhari is an extremist, our finding and research has proven it wrong, that is why we are endorsing him for a second term."

According to the group, Buhari is the only president in Nigeria that continues with the 95 per cent abandoned projects of a previous administration.

Muya continued: “Today, we have seen a man who has been accused without proof. We are here to tell Nigerians that Buhari is a good leader, worthy leader and never had anything against Christians and Christianity. We endorsed President Muhammadu Buhari’s second tenure and we must stand and protect our votes."
