Lionel Messi will pocket a massive £7.3m monthly salary in a new Barcelona deal says club president Josep Maria Bartomeu.

According to UK Sun citing Marca, the new contract will see Messi remain football’s top earner with a figure above his current £7.3m monthly wage.

Messi’s present deal runs out in 2021 but eggheads of the Catalan side want him to retire at Nou Camp.

Speaking on progress made so far on Messi’s new deal, Bartomeu insists all is well and remains confident the Argentinean will remain at Barca.

Interestingly, the 31-year-old Messi remains Barcelona’s all-time record scorer and after 2020, a clause in his present deal frees him to move to a non-elite club.

Earlier, reported that Lionel Messi is now topping the list of the highest paid footballers in the world as he earns £7.3 million every month.

Messi's income according to the report nearly double that of big rival Cristiano Ronaldo who is playing for Juventus as he takes home £4.1 million monthly.
