Ijaw National Congress endorses Atiku as presidential candidate

- Presidential candidate of the PDP Atiku Abubakar has been endorsed by the Pan Ijaw socio-cultural organisation

- The organisation said it examined the manifestoes of the two leading aspirants, President Buhari and Atiku, and aligned with the latter

- According to the Ijaw group, it is supporting Atiku because he believes in the restructuring of Nigeria

The Pan Ijaw socio-cultural organisation, Ijaw National Congress (INC), has endorsed Alhaji Atiku Abubakar ahead of the presidential election on February 16. This was disclosed at the end of its meeting in Yenagoa.

According to the organisation, it examined the manifestoes of the two leading aspirants, President Muhammadu Buhari and Alhaji Atiku Abubakar and aligned itself with the position of the latter.

The organisation claimed it supported Atiku because he believes in the restructuring of Nigeria for the purpose of peace, harmony, equity, fairness and Justice.

The meeting which had in attendance notable Ijaw sons and daughters including Prof. Joseph Ajierika who doubles as the chairman of INC steering committee reviewed the state of the nation and the credentials of two aspirants ahead of the 2019 general elections, New Telegraph reports.

It said: “Rather than taking a critical look at the issue, President Buhari stated during his recent visit to Bayelsa that the present Nigerian constitution which gives Kano 44 LGAs and Bayelsa 8 LGAs was perfect since both states have three senators each.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng had reported that stakeholders of Osun state chapter of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) led by the pioneer chairman of the party in the state, Chief Ademola Ishola, have resolved to vote for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar.

Ishola in a statement in Osogbo disclosed that foundation members of the party from all the 30 local governments met at the old party secretariat, Fakunle area, Osogbo on Wednesday, February 13, and resolved to vote en-mass for Atiku in the Saturday’s presidential election.

According to him, majority of SDP members and in particular old party supporters had no pact with the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state and were not involved in any coalition agreement with the ruling party.
