- The Croatian midfielder has been a crucial member of Ernesto Valverde's Barcelona this term
- Rakitic is expected to leave with the potential signing of Frenkie De Jong
Manchester United are set to battle Chelsea all the way for Barcelona’s midfielder Ivan Rakitic.
According to a UK Sun citing Sport, the likes of Bayern Munich, Juventus and Inter Milan are all keeping tabs on the Croatian, who is expected to cost about £57m this summer.
The 30-year-old Rakitic was repeatedly linked with a £78m switch from Paris Saint-Germain last summer.
According to Sport, Manchester United and Chelsea also face competition from Bayern Munich, Juventus and Inter Milan who have held discussions’ with Barcelona this term.
Interestingly, Barcelona were keen in selling Rakitic, but head coach Ernesto Valverde and the player did not want the deal to see the light of the day.
But this time around the Catalan side are refusing to table a new deal.
At the moment, Rakitic’s current contract expires in 2021, but report coming out of Camp Nou claim he wants to remain at Barcelona.
However, with the situation on ground, the World Cup finalist looks set to move on without talks on extension or improved salaries on the table.
Since his arrival from Sevilla in 2014, the combative midfielder has won three La Liga titles, four Copa del Reys, a Champions League and a Club World Cup.
In the current campaign, the Croatia missed just three games across all competitions, netting four times.
Also, the arrival of Frenkie De Jong will further push Rakitic down the pecking order at Barca.

According to Spanish news media outfit Sport, the Stamford Bridge outfit are keeping a close eye on the situation as Frenkie De Jong is set to join the star-studded Barca side in the summer.
The arrival of the Ajax midfielder could pave way for Rakitic who was instrumental to Croatia's journey to the World Cup final last summer.
