Breaking: Hoodlums allegedly set Anambra police station on fire, free prisoners (photos)

- The police station in the Ajali, Orumba north local government area of Anambra state, has been gutted by fire

- Reports claim that the station was set ablaze by some unknown hoodlums who allegedly freed prisoners in the building

- However, the police spokesman in the state, Haruna Mohammed, said that the development is a case of accident until investigations prove otherwise

A gang of thugs have allegedly set on fire a police station in Ajali, Orumba north local government area of Anambra state.

It is claimed that the hoodlums set free prisoners after beating up some police officers, they also burnt at least two patrol vans.

However, Haruna Mohammed, the state’s police spokesman in the state, in a statement sent to Legit.ng claimed: “It’s a case of fire incident for now until the contrary is proved through discreet investigation.”

Mohammed added: “The Commissioner of Police, Mustapha Dandaura, is presently at the scene for on the spot assessment.

“He ordered the DC Department of Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department to conduct a thorough investigation in order to ascertain circumstances surrounding the incident.”

Meanwhile, Legit.ng reported that policemen in Anambra were engaged in a gun battle by two suspected female robbers in Ogidi, Idemili north local government area of the state.

The incident took place for over 30 minutes on Saturday, December 15, Punch reports. Legit.ng gathered that the police had arrived, following a tip-off that the robbers were operating in the hotel.
