BREAKING: Police barricaded INEC office in Rivers

- A team of policemen on Thursday, February 14, blocked the entrance of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC)'s office in Rivers

- This is coming just days after the primaries of the APC in the state was cancelled by the Federal High Court

- It is claimed that the barricading of INEC's office in the state is linked to the proposed protest by members of the party

Some police officials on Thursday, February 14, barricaded the entrance to the Rivers state headquarters of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Port Harcourt.

Added to this, security agents mounted a blockade across the road near INEC's office in the state, Sahara Reporters reports.

The development, as it is claimed, may be linked with the proposed protest of members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers following the nullification of the party's primaries by court order, leading to the exclusion of their candidates from the general polls.

Earlier, Legit.ng reported that the Supreme Court had confirmed that the APC will not have candidates in Rivers state during the forthcoming 2019 general elections.

The court dismissed an appeal filed by the APC challenging the judgment of a high court in Port Harcourt. The court earlier barred the party from conducting any primaries in the state to nominate candidates to represent the party in the elections.
