- The PDP has cried out over the presence of top security chiefs in Kwara state, ahead of the presidential election
- The opposition party alleged that the deployment was a plot by the APC to intimidate, harass and create fear in the minds of voters and rig elections in the state
- The PDP said the plot was the reason why the ruling party has been boasting about winning the general elections
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has raised an alarm over the heavy deployment of top security chiefs in Kwara, the home state of the Senate president and director general of the PDP Presidential Campaign Council, Dr Bukola Saraki, ahead of the presidential election.
The opposition party raised the alarm in a statement released by its spokesman, Kola Ologbondiyan, on Wednesday, February 13, The Nation reports.
Legit.ng gathers that the PDP alleged that the deployment was a plot by the All Progressives Congress (APC) to intimidate, harass and create fear in the minds of voters and rig elections in the state.
The statement read: “As part of the plot, the Directorate of State Services (DSS) has deployed its director of operations, Etteng Bassey, as well as the state directors in charge of Ogun and Anambra states to Kwara state ahead of Saturday’s elections while the director in charge of Kwara state has been moved to Benue.
“This is in addition to the deployment of hundreds of other DSS operatives from Abuja to Kwara state.
“We also have it on good authority that soldiers will from tomorrow (Thursday, February 14) cordon off all entry points to the personal house of the Senate president in Ilorin as well as his late father’s compound in Ilofa Road, old GRA, Ilorin.
“Similarly, the police have made heavy deployment of officers and men from its headquarters in Abuja to Ilorin, Kwara state capital, where they have been instructed to arrest key political players loyal to Senator Saraki.
“We alert Nigerians that the federal government plots to use the same strategy in key states of the federation to subvert the will of the people.”
The PDP said the plot was the reason why the ruling party has been boasting about winning the general elections even though all indications, including opinion polls sponsored by them, showed otherwise.
The opposition party, however, stated that Nigerians are ready to confront all aggression and vote out the APC during the general elections; stressing that such vicious plots being hatched by the Buhari presidency and the ruling party will come to naught.
It implored party faithful and supporters to come out en masse to vote and protect their votes with every legitimate means available to them. It further urged them to be resolute in resisting the APC’s machinations.
Meanwhile, Legit.ng previously reported that the Ekiti state chapter of the PDP accused the APC of planning to buy votes with the repatriated Abacha loot.
The allegation was made by the Ekiti state director of media and publicity of the Atiku/Obi Presidential Campaign Council, Lere Olayinka.
According to him, the ruling party had perfected plans to use the recovered loot from the late head of state, General Sani Abacha, to buy votes in the forthcoming polls, use security operatives to rig the elections and use officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to perpetrate electoral fraud.
