The Federal High Court sitting in Awka, Anambra state, on Tuesday, February 12, sacked Margery Chuba-Okadigbo as the candidate of the All Progressives Congress in the Anambra North senatorial district.
Channels TV reports that Justice I. B. Gafai declared Nelson Onubogu as the legitimate candidate. Counsel to Onubogu, Tochukwu Nweke argued that Okadigbo was wrongly nominated by the APC because she did not contest the election.
Nweke also argued that Onubogu who was the only aspirant at the primary election must be declared the candidate. All documents presented by Senator Okadigbo and the APC were rejected by the court.
Meanwhile, Legit.ng had reported that Rita Maduagwu, speaker of the Anambra state House of Assembly called on stakeholders in the state to play their parts to ensure a hitch-free electoral process and peaceful general elections.
Maduagwu made the call on Wednesday, February 6, in Awka. She said the forthcoming general elections must have the input of the stakeholders to make the exercise credible, free and fair, as a proof that the nations’ democracy had come to stay.
The speaker noted that efforts were on by the three tiers of government to ensure that agencies responsible for the conduct of the general elections were prepared in order not to upturn democracy.
