- The South-West Youth Forum has announced its endorsement of President Muhammadu Buhari for re-election
- The group expressed optimism that the president will do better if re-elected
- This endorsement is coming after the Afenifere endorsed Atiku Abubakar as its preferred presidential candidate
The South-West Youth Forum (SWYF) has rejected the endorsement of Atiku Abubakar for president by the pan-Yoruba group, Afenifere and instead endorsed President Buhari for re-election.
According to Daily Trust, the group made this decision after their meeting where they sided with the Pa Ayo Fasanmi-led faction of the group.
The southwest youths described Bola Tinubu as a leading Yoruba voice “and his patriotism and forthright leadership remains unparalleled in the present political history.”
It said it was “impressed with the performance of Buhari in the areas of security, fighting corruption, improving the economy and the infrastructural development.”
The youths urged well-meaning Nigerians to ignore those they called “anti-democratic forces who are fanning the ember of war and violence.”
Meanwhile, a pan-Yoruba pressure group, the Agbekoya Farmers' Society has pledged support for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, in the forthcoming presidential election.
In a meeting with the deputy chairman of the PDP presidential campaign council (south), Otunba Gbenga Daniel, the group expressed their interest in the presidency of Atiku, saying his developmental policies especially the issue of restructuring, will allow every zone of the country to develop at its own pace.
In the words of the national secretary of the group, Dr. Moses Ogunsanya, “the hardship facing the farmers are enormous and these can only be surmounted if there is a responsive government who will be alive to the yearnings of the people especially the farmers whose contributions to a nation's well being is not negotiable."
