Dogara Abubakar, the SDP's chairman and Alpha Kapnan, its secretary, said that the resolve to mobilise members for President Buhari came after an agreement by the party's National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting in Abuja.

Commending members for their support and encouragement during the party's trying moments, Abubakar and Kapnan called on them to go ahead with their campaigns in the various constituencies.

In their statement, both leading members of the party said: “Their steadfastness and commitment to the very ideals that make SDP a unique force in the country is an inspiration to us.”

They added: “We wish the de facto National Chairman Prof Tunde Adeniran a peaceful and successful leadership and will continue to give our support and loyalty.”

Earlier, Legit.ng reported that the SDP on Thursday, February 7, adopted Buhari as its consensus candidate ahead of February 16 presidential poll.

The NEC of the party, however, explained that the adoption did not portend merger with the APC. Legit.ng gathered that this was even as the NEC suspended its national publicity secretary, Alfa Muhammad, for indulging in anti-party activities.
