Mauro Icardi has been stripped of captaincy of Inter Milan as the Serie A side have given the mantle to their goalkeeper Samir Handanovic.

Inter made the announcement on their Twitter handle after contract talks with the Argentine striker is yet to be finalized.

The 25-year-old has a £100million release clause in his current deal with the Nerazzurri and discussions have been ongoing with his wife who doubles as agent Wand Nara.

Chelsea have reportedly led the chase for the Argentine scorer and Spanish giants Real Madrid have also considered making an offer in the summer.

The club have reportedly made a €6million per year offer but Nara has proposed for an €8million yearly income.

It now seems Icardi's suitors will cash in for the striker after both parties failed to reach an agreement on his wages.

Nara vented her frustrations with her husband's situation on Italian TV in December saying "Inter's offer doesn't exist".
