Nigerians react to Chinua Achebe's Things Fall Apart novel being sold for N1m

Nigerians on social media have reacted to the news of a first edition sale of Things Fall Apart a classic novel by late author Chinua Achebe.

In a tweet posted by Lola Shoneyin, author of The Secrets Lives of Baba Segi Wives, it was revealed that a book collector was looking to sell a first print, first edition of the popular Nigerian novel.

Shoneyin in her post had further revealed that the collector was selling the publication for the sum of N1 million. She added that interested persons should drop their comments under the post and they would be responded to.

Several of her followers had, however, received the information with mixed reactions.

While some fans’ of Achebe’s works were looking to get their hands on the copy of the classic novel, others had expressed their reservations at the amount the book was being sold for.

Chinua Achebe was a Nigerian novelist, poet, critic and professor whose works were widely celebrated in the literary world. Even after his passing, his books continue to inspire generations of African writers in the world.

His first novel, Things Fall Apart, was considered as his best work and is also the most widely read work in modern African literature.
