Emiliano Sala who recently lost his life in a tragic plane disaster will be honored by European football governing body (UEFA) with a minute's silence in all Champions League and Europa games.

The Champions League round of 16 encounters will start on Tuesday night, February 12, with Manchester United hosting French club Paris-Saint-Germain.

Football fans in every parts of the world were thrown into mourning last week when police confirmed that the body found in the plane that crashed was that of Emiliano Sala.

Sala was travelling from Nantes to join his former teammates at Cardiff City before the plane suddenly crashed into the English channel.

It took the authorities in charge almost two weeks before they found the plane and later saw the body of Emiliano Sala.

But the body of pilot Ibbotson is still missing although funds have been raised for search to continue.

"On behalf of everyone at UEFA, I would like to express my sincerest condolences to the family and loved ones of Emiliano Sala for their loss.

"I am deeply saddened that his life was so cruelly taken away at such a young age and I urge supporters across the continent to pay their respects to his memory over the coming days,'' UEFA president Aleksander Čeferin said according to UK Mirror.

Earlier, Legit.ng had reported how Emiliano Sala reportedly died of head injuries he sustained after the plane crashed into the sea alongside Brit pilot David Ibbotson near Alderney on January 21.

According to the report, an inquest commenced proceeding into Sala’s death before adjourning in Dorset, but they were informed that a post-mortem confirmed that the Cardiff City star died from "head and trunk" related injuries.
