I did not steal government money while in office as Imo governor - Ohakim

- Former governor Ikedi Ohakim has said he did not embezzle Imo state fund while in office between 2007 to 2011

- According to the former governor, he still lives in a 3 bedroom bungalow he built in 1992 while he was a commissioner

- Ohakim, who is the Accord Party governorship candidate in the forthcoming election, said he is ready to serve diligently again

The former governor of Imo state and the Accord Party's Imo governorship candidate in the forthcoming election, Ikedi Ohakim, has vowed to serve the state diligently without enriching himself in the process.

Ohakim, who spoke during his campaign in Okigwe local government area of the state, said he did not steal from the government in his four years rule as the Imo state governor.

The former governor who ruled from 2007 to 2011 said despite the distraction during his tenure, he refused to enrich himself with the government money.

He said: "Despite the gang-up and distractions against my government, I served the people of the state well and addressed their needs while I was in office.

“I did not steal government money while in office as governor and I did not allocate a plot of land to myself. I still live in the three bedroom bungalow which I built in 1992 as a commissioner.

“I am not greedy. I occupied myself with serving the people, I am a man of character, I was able to separate public life from my private life."

Meanwhile, Legit.ng earlier reported that Senator Hope Uzodinma, the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Imo alleged that the administration of Governor Rochas Okorocha has plunged the state into huge debt which he put at N321 billion.

Uzodinma, who also reacted to allegations by Okorocha that he wasted eight years in the Senate and achieved nothing, said the governor is not his match.
