Buhari, APC planning to arrest our leaders ahead of election - PDP

- The APC has been accused of plotting to destabilize the PDP by arresting its members ahead of the coming elections

- The opposition made this statement after the former PDP chairman in Kaduna state, Ben Bako, was arrested by operatives of the DSS

- According to the PDP, Bako’s arrest is prelude to the planned clampdown of its campaign officials by the Buhari presidency and the APC

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Monday, February 11, accused the ruling party, the All Progressives Congress (APC) of plotting to arrest most of its party leaders in the days leading to the general elections.

The PDP's national publicity secretary, Kola Ologbondiyan, made this statement after operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) arrested the director of media committee of the Kaduna state PDP Governorship Campaign Organisation, Ben Bako.

Ologbondiyan, while reacting to Bako's arrest, said the opposition party is plotting a major clampdown on campaign officials of the PDP to destabilize the party ahead of election, Guardian reports.

He said: “We are aware that Mr. Bako’s arrest is prelude to the planned clampdown of our campaign officials by the Buhari presidency and the APC whose aim is to instill fear in the polity, incite crisis and derail the electoral process, having realised that they have lost even before the polls.

“It is instructive to state that the DSS has given no reason for Mr. Bako’s arrest and detention, but only acted on the orders of the APC as expressed by the Assistant Publicity Secretary of Kaduna APC, Salisu Tanko Wusono, who openly stated that Mr. Bako deserves his ordeal."

Legit.ng earlier reported that the PDP in Kaduna on Monday, February 11, confirmed that operatives of Department of State Services (DSS) arrested the party’s former chairman, Alhaji Yaro Makama.

The publicity secretary of the party in the state, Abraham Catoh, confirmed the arrest in an interview.

The report said the arrest of the former chairman is coming about 72 hours after the spokesperson of the party’s state campaign council, Ben Bako, was arrested over alleged inciting and hate speech during a campaign rally.
