Mesut Ozil was rejected in the January transfer window by top European clubs after Arsenal tried to sell him, reports from Italy claim.

The former German midfielder was said to have been offered to Italian champions Juventus but the Old Lady were put off by his £350,000 weekly wages.

And according to Italian news media outfit, the Bianconeri had refused the offer back in November, but opted for Aaron Ramsey who signed a pre-contract agreement for next summer.

It is understood that his agents attempted to lure Inter Milan with the aim Arsenal will be interested in signing Croatia star Ivan Perisic.

Perisic is known to be ready to leave the Serie A club for a summer switch to the north London club.

Ozil was not listed in the Gunners' win at Huddersfield due to illness, which makes it the seventh time the ex-Real Madrid star has been ill since 2017.

He trained with his teammates last Friday with Arsenal uploading the footage on YouTube but was not selected in the 2-0 win.

Emery's side are now fifth on the log after climbing above their London rivals Chelsea, who were battered 6-0 by Manchester City.

Meanwhile, had earlier reported that Arsenal manager Unai Emery has insisted that leaving Mesut Ozil out of his squad that suffered 1-0 defeat to West Ham United was based on tactical decision.
