Ernesto Valverde who is the gaffer of Spanish champions Barcelona has confirmed that superstar Lionel Messi is fit and fine after concerns in the club's last La Liga encounter.

Concerns were raised on Sunday, February 10, after Barcelona were forced to 0-0 draw at Athletic Bilbao in which Lionel Messi failed to give his side the victory.

Lionel Messi started Barcelona's first leg match in the Copa del Rey against Real Madrid from the bench due to thigh knock, but he came back into the squad against Bilbao.

The Argentina international was superb in the encounter against Bilbao, but his failure to score a goal makes many think probably he is not 100 percent fit.

And Barcelona handler Ernesto Valverde has now provided an answer dismissing the suggestions that Lionel Messi was not fit enough to play on Sunday, February 10.

"Messi is fine and he has played at 100 per cent.

"He has had some difficulties, because we had them as a collective, but when he plays it is because is absolutely convinced everything is fine.

"It is a matter for the whole team and people always point to a player because he failed a pass or some situation. It is true that sometimes they can be more successful,'' Valverde told reporters according to Goal.

Meanwhile, Barcelona are still topping the Spanish La Liga standings with 51 points after 23 games played this season losing only two games.

Earlier, had reported how Barcelona failed to stretch their lead at the summit of the Spanish League table to eight points after being stalemated by Athletic Bilbao in tough La Liga clash on Sunday night.

Despite having their captain Lionel Messi back in the starting line up, the Catalans still were unable to buy themselves a win.
