Tonto Dikeh explains why she 'lives for the gram'

Despite the growing number of people on social media, many find it hard to admit these online platforms are addictive. For Nollywood actress, Tonto Dikeh, living her life for social media validation is something she isn't afraid to admit.

Nollywood actress and philanthropist, Tonto Dikeh is definitely one Nigerian celebrity who is outspoken about how she feels, regardless of whose ox is gored and this case is no different.

She took to her Instagram to call out the operators of the platform after some changes were made on the app, making her loose some followers. This displeased the actress who has a following of over three million people.

Putting up a post complaining about the changes, she wrote: "Plus I was 10person shy away from making 3.9following as at yesterday but today that has changed drastically!! Gimme back my followers, if others wldnt say I will (WE LIVE FOR OUR FOLLOWING)

Instagram has become such a huge part of My life(And yours too but I know you will prefer to argue with your elders), I live for My comments and my Likes and Everything that comes with it..Sometimes when times fall apart in my life,All I do is pray and come to instagram to stay happy with different varieties of Talents and stupidity!!"

The mother of one went further to describe Instagram as a culture which people (she inclusive) live for.

She wrote: "I learn a lot here!! Instagram has become a culture and we live for the culture!! BUT WE MOST NEVER BE SLAVES TO THE CULTURE!! So in this digital culture I belong to, Our/MY Followings, likes & comment is all I live for and it kills me to have that messed with..#DIGITALLIFE #REALLIFE #STAYREALTOYOURSELF #ILOST40FOLLOWERS #YOU? "

While Tonto Dikeh's statement may appear obnoxious or misleading, it clearly reflects in how people live their lives, heavily influenced by what or how their online 'friends' think or react to their posts and photos.

A perfect example is the story of how an upcoming Nigerian actress named Toyosi Jaiyesimi led her followers on social media to believe she bought a car. She shared photos of her new ride on Instagram. However, it was later revealed that she did not actually purchase the expensive ride but had only used photos of the car to show off to the gram.
