City got their own chance in the 16th minute when Leroy Sane provided a good assist for Laporte, only for the 24-year-old Frenchman to miss the goal.

Pep Guardiola's men eventually netted their first goal in the 45th minute, and it was Aymeric Laporte who redeemed himself after getting an assist from David Silva.

Everton tried all they could to restore parity when the second half began properly, but the duo of Theo Walcott and Bernard failed to break the defense of Manchester City.
