Shepherd and Mary Bushiri have been granted bail at N2.7m each

The controversial pastor, Shepherd Bushiri and his wife, Mary, have been granted bail by the Specialised Commercial Crimes Court. Bail for the couple has been set at R100,000 each. The pair face charges of fraud, money laundering and more.

Today saw the Pretoria Specialized Commercial Crimes Court granting Shepherd and Mary Bushiri bail at R100,000 (N2.7m) each.

The controversial duo had been arrested on Friday on charges of fraud, money laundering and contravention of the Prevention of Organized Crime Act.

Devout supporters of the couple, largely members of the Enlightened Christian Gathering church, rejoiced when the bail was set.

Legit.ng reported earlier that the Hawks had confirmed the arrest of the pair on Friday, saying in a statement that:

"The Hawks’ case against the pair, concerns alleged offences of fraud, money laundering and contravention of the Prevention of Organised Crime Act. (POCA), committed from 2015, in relation to Exchange Control Regulations related to foreign currency in an amount of 1 147 200 USD."

According to The Sowetan, Mr and Mrs Bushiri stand accused of, among other things, using their private jet to transport R15 million (N402.8m) in cash a month to Malawi, Shepherd's homeland.

Meanwhile, On Monday, February 4, Paseka Mboro was spotted heading down to the Pretoria Commercial Crimes court in support of his friend and fellow religious leader. the controversial church leader, Mboro, was shockingly seen supporting his enemy-turned-friend, Bushiri.
