Why I left Tambuwal’s govt - Ex-Sokoto commissioner

- Former Sokoto state commissioner of information, Bello Muhammad Goronyo, said he defected to APC because of Senator Wamakko

- According to him, Wamakko, who represents Sokoto North senatorial district, is a just, honest and a transparent leader

- Goronyo, however, vowed to work assiduously to ensure the success of the candidates of the party, at all levels during the general elections

Former Sokoto state commissioner of information, Barrister Bello Muhammad Goronyo, on Tuesday, February 5, disclosed why he defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Daily Sun reports that Goronyo stated that he made the move because of Senator Wamakko, who represents Sokoto North senatorial district.

Daily Sun reports that he announced his defection on Tuesday, February 5, at the flag off campaign rally of the APC held in Wamakko, the hometown of Senator Aliyu, Magatakarda Wamakko, the leader of the party in the state.

"I am back into the fold of the APC. Senator Wamakko is my able and dependable father. He is a just, honest and a transparent leader.

“This day is very historic for me, my family and all my political associates. I have admitted making mistakes, but, I should be forgiven.

“I hereby promise to work assiduously to ensure the success of the candidates of the party, at all levels during the forthcoming general polls," he said.

The leader of the APC in the state and the coordinator, north western presidential campaign council, Senator Wamakko welcomed back Barrister Bello, Muhammad Goronyo.

Wamakko described Goronyo as a true and loyal son, adding, “I am sincerely elated with this happy development.”

The APC gubernatorial candidate in the state, Ahmed, Aliyu Sokoto, also lauded the former Information Commissioner for the action saying, "he defected to the party with no strings attached.”

The statement further disclosed that the highlight of the ceremony was the earlier defection of no fewer than 7,400 members of the PDP to the APC, from Wamakko local government.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng had reported that Goronyo, defected to the All Progressives Congress. Goronyo until his defection was the state information commissioner and chairman of publicity committee of the PDP campaign for the forthcoming general elections.

Goronyo announced his defection on Tuesday, February 5, at the flag off campaign rally of the APC held in Wamakko, the hometown of Senator Aliyu, Magatakarda Wamakko, the leader of the party in the state.

Goronyo’s defection was cheered by thousands of party supporters who thronged the campaign rally. He, however, did not state his reasons for abandoning the PDP and Tambuwal’s government to join the opposition party in the state.
