Dutch politician known for supporting anti-Muslim laws converts to Islam

- Top Dutch politician Van Klaveren has converted to Islam after tagging the religion a disease

- The 40-year-old husband and father claimed he saw the light while writing a book condemning the religion

- He revealed that he found out he had more in common with the mode of worship than he thought

- He apologised for giving people a false impression about Islam

A 40-year-old Dutch politician known as Joram Van Klaveren has recently concerted to Islam after condemning the religion for many years.

Joram served as a member of Party for Freedom in the house of representative in Netherlands from 2010 to 2017. In the seven years of his time in the Dutch parliament, he was known for making several anti-Muslim comments including one of the most famous; 'Islam is the biggest disease to have hit our country.'

He also spoke of "Muslim misery"; he called the Prophet Muhammad a crook, Islam a lie, and the Quran poison. However, in 2019, Klaveren who was mid way through writing a book against Islam, had a change of heart and decided to become a Muslim.

"I looked at the Bible on my bookshelf, on the table were books about the Prophet Muhammad. The prior years I had a big aversion to Islam. When you then have to conclude that you were wrong, it is not a fun moment." He said.

Almost like Joram was visited by God while he was searching for the truth, he revealed that it became clearer to him. He said; "But while searching for God I always felt a certain unease. And that slowly disappeared. It felt a bit like coming home in a religious way."

Although the family man has stated that he will not impose his new religion on his wife and kids as reported by Daily Mail, he apologised for spreading a false image of the religion he now holds so dear. He said he is very sorry that he contributed to giving people a false image about Islam.

Interestingly, according to the Dutch Central Statistics Bureau (CBS), around five percent of the Dutch population of 17 million people or some 850,000 are Muslim.

Meanwhile, the heads of two religions, Pope Francis and Sheikh Ahmed al-Tayeb, the grand Imam of Egypt, on Monday, February 4, embraced peace.

Both religious leaders signed a historic declaration for fraternity in United Arab Emirate in promotion of peace. The document was signed in honour of all victims of wars, persecution, injustice and torture in the world.
