- The forum pointed out that oil and gas exploration will in no small measure, add value to the economy of Nigeria
The recent flag-off of oil and gas drilling operations in the Gongola Basin in Bauchi state by President Muhammadu Buhari has been described by the Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) as a welcome development that will open new prospects for the oil and gas industry in Nigeria.
The ACF made its position public in a statement signed by its national publicity secretary, Alhaji Muhammad Ibrahim Biu, Daily Trust reports.
Legit.ng gathers that Biu said the political will mustered by the federal government to pursue oil exploration in northern Nigeria is in line with the Buhari administration’s Economic Recovery and Growth Plan (ERGP) which can boost economic benefits in the North and Nigeria.
The ACF urged the federal government to sustain oil and gas exploration efforts in the other frontier basins in the country, while commending it for the initiative.
It said: “In this respects, ACF appeals to the Nigeria National Petroleum Company (NNPC) to courageously and fully ensure that the presidential directive on the oil exploration campaigns in Chad Basin, Gongola, Anambra, Sokoto, Bida Basins and Benue Trough are carried out to the letter and spirit.
“ACF also appeals to the FG to also create and provide an enabling environment that will encourage other oil companies to invest and participate in the oil and gas exploration in the North.”
The ACF pointed out that oil and gas exploration will in no small measure, add value to the economy of Nigeria.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng previously reported that the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) cautioned Nigerians against heightened expectations of crude oil discovery in some states in the northern part of the country.
The group managing director of NNPC, Maikanti Baru, while speaking at the Presidential Spud-in (drilling) of Kolmani River II Well, in Barambu community in Alkaeri local government area, between Bauchi and Gombe states, issued a caveat on oil exploration in the area.
Baru warned that the expectations of an early find of crude oil and gas in the North might not be as immediate as expected by all.
