Buhari, Atiku in mad race over 7m Igbo votes in north

- With some days to the February 16 presidential election, Igbo leaders in the north are said to be in dilemma over who to support between APC and PDP

- It was gathered that the need to make a fast decision has become expedient following the endorsement of Atiku by Ohanaeze Ndigbo

- More facts have emerged that there are some underground moves to persuade the Igbo into voting Buhari against the endorsement of Atiku by the Ohanaeze group

There are indications that over seven million Igbo people residing in the north have been thrown in dilemma of choice over who they will give their vote, between the All Progressive Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) come February 16.

Vanguard reports that with the endorsement of Atiku Abubakar by the Ohanaeze, the highest socio-political group in the southeast, disgruntled Igbo leaders in the north have been making effort to deliver the 7 million votes to the president.

Leading this plot, Legit.ng gathers, is the suspended secretary of the Igbo apex group, Okwukwu, who was reported to have embarked on a move with aggrieved Igbo leaders in the north to pay a visit to President Buhari and pledge their loyalty to him.

It was also gathered that an unnamed minister in the Buhari's cabinet from the southeast has been making wide consultation towards the endorsement of the president by Igbo people in the north.

A source said: "There is a campaign going on for the endorsement and support for Buhari. The reason is that those not elected as leaders in the north now hijacked Atiku’s campaign, both Ohanaeze Ndigbo and Igbo Delegate Assembly."

According to another source, Nze Ozichukwu Chukwu, who is former national vice chairman of the PDP, has also been seen gathering forces to hijack Atiku's campaign.

The source also disclosed that underground moves are ongoing to persuade the Igbo into voting Buhari against the endorsement of Atiku by the Ohanaeze Ndigbo group.

The source claimed: “Igbo leadership in the north has met and agreed to make open declaration in support of Buhari, this is an underground move. There are powerful people behind it. As we talk, money is moving and the leadership is resisting the attempt.

“Ozichukwu is busy using Atiku’s wife and people that are not part of the leadership here in the north. The seven million votes is about to go down the drain. In the next few weeks, if nothing is done, the aggrieved people will dump Atiku.”
