Days after the rift between Governor Akinwunmi Ambode and members of the Lagos House of Assembly was resolved by some political leaders in the state including Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, the controversial budget presentation is now set to hold.
Multiple sources from the Lagos state House of Assembly told Legit.ng that the stage is set for the formal presentation of the 2019 budget which was earlier seen as a major reason for the political crisis between the two arms.
According to them, the governor is expected to present the budget in the morning of Tuesday, February 5.
Legit.ng earlier reported how the rift got intense following a claim by the Lagos state commissioner for budget and economic planning, Olusegun Banjo, that the 2019 proposal was already before the House of Assembly and had intended to be read before the lawmakers on December 24, 2018.
In a statement signed and made available to Legit.ng in the evening of Wednesday, January 2, Banjo said Governor Akinwunmi Ambode had sent a verbal information to present the budget on Monday, December 24, 2018, after the State Executive Council (SEC) approval on December 19, 2018, but that the ceremony was postponed as the House was on recess and thereby could not form a quorum.
The Lagos Assembly, however, denied receiving the 2019 budget from the Governor Ambode-led government.
Earlier on Thursday, January 3, the commissioner said the 2019 budget proposal of N852.317 billion was forwarded to the House of Assembly on Monday, December 24, 2018, The Guardian reports.
The members of the House of Assembly also made a move against Governor Akinwunmi Ambode in an action that could have led to impeachment process on him.
The Lagos Assembly also summoned the governor to appear before it within one week over the 2019 budget, which has caused disagreement between the two arms of government.
The governor is under the heat over the way he presented the 2019 budget as well as issues with the 2018 appropriation law of the state.
