Ohanaeze moves to mobilise Ndigbo in nationwide voting tour

- The Ohanaeze Ndigbo have said it plans to embark on a tour to mobilise people of the southeast ahead of the 2019 general elections

- The group said the tour would ensure that people of Igbo ethnic group to participate in this year’s general elections

- According to Ohanaeze Ndigbo, citizens of Niger, chad and neigbouring countries are migrating into Nigeria ahead of the elections

Members of the Ohanaeze Ndigbo have warned against foreigners voting in the forthcoming 2019 general elections across Nigeria.

Vanguard reports that the group said such move by any group or members of any political party would not be tolerated.

In a statement issued on Monday, February 4, the deputy publicity secretary of the Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Chiuks Ibegbu, said the group would also embark on a tour across states in the country.

Ibegbu said the tour is aimed at mobilising people of Igbo ethnic group to participate in this year’s general elections.

“Ohanaeze warns against foreigners voting in the forthcoming elections.

Citizens of Niger, Chad, Cameroun, Mali and other African neigbouring countries that have been infiltrating Nigeria of recent should desist from their interference in Nigeria territorial integrity and sovereignty.

“INEC, security agents and other persons concerned with the election should please keep to the rules or have themselves to blame if things go awry,” Ibegbu said.

He also warned that it is important for all national to exercise their civic rights at the poll because the 2019 election will either make or mar Nigeria.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng previously reported that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)'s presidential ambition in the forthcoming general election, Atiku Abubakar, received a huge boost as leaders of the Ohanaeze Ndi Igbo, Northern Elders Forum, Pan-Niger Delta forum, the Middle Belt Forum, and a faction of Afenifere endorsed him.

The group disclosed this at a meeting tagged: Summit of Nigerian leaders and elders.

It was gathered that the group arrived at the conclusion after series of meetings with the presidential candidates in the past months.
