Local government employees across Nigeria endorse Buhari ahead of 2019

- The Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) says it is endorsing President Buhari for a second term

- NULGE says its decision is hinged on its belief that President Buhari is trustworthy

- The union, however, wants the president to match his statements with action and fulfill his promises

The Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) has reportedly endorsed President Muhammadu Buhari, the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the presidential election on February 16.

The endorsement of Buhari was made by the national president of NULGE, Comrade Ibrahim Khaleel, when he led a team of members of the organisation on a visit to the chairman of the Buhari Support Organisation (BSO), Buba Marwa.

Marwa is also the chairman of the presidential advisory committee on drugs abuse.

The NULGE president described Buhari as a trustworthy person who deserved a second term.

According to Khaleel, Buhari has continuously declared his commitment to ensuring an autonomous local government administration in the country that is strong.

Daily Trust reports that the NULGE boss, however, expressed hope that Buhari would not only make the statements but take the necessary actions.

“Based on what we agreed, we have done our part. We will mobilise our members. You have our support on the issue of President Buhari project because we feel he is trustworthy.

“If we are to ask ourselves, is the local government meeting the expectations of citizens like us? Why are our local governments malfunctioning?

“It is because of the interests that lie therein. We are aware that the Constitution of Nigeria recognises the local government as a full- fledged tier of government,” he said.

Speaking at the meeting, Brigadier General Marwa (rtd), a former military administrator of Lagos state, promised that President Buhari would meet their expectations when re-elected.
