We are safe - Osinbajo speaks after surviving helicopter crash

Professor Yemi Osinbajo, Nigeria’s vice president, has reacted after surviving a helicopter crash on his way to Kogi state in continuation of the campaign for the re-election of Muhammadu Buhari, the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Osinbajo, who was aboard the helicopter with members of his team when the incident happened, told Nigerians that he was safe.

The vice president also commended the crew members who managed the situation and averted a major disaster that would have occurred.

He thanked Nigerians for their concerns.

“We are safe and sound! Thank you to everyone who has expressed concern and thank you to the crew who managed the situation well.

“We believe that God will continue to keep us and Nigeria safe even as we go higher,” the vice president said.

His media aide, Laolu Akande, who broke the news of the helicopter crash, had earlier stated that the vice president and his team are safe.

Legit.ng reported that the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, on Saturday, February 2, joined Nigerians in expressing happiness that the vice president, Yemi Osinbajo, survived a helicopter crash on his way to Kogi state.

Atiku, who posted his reaction on his social media handle, said: “Dear vice president, Professor Yemi Osinbajo, I just received news of the crash of your helicopter in Kabba, Kogi state. I am happy to note, however, that all is well with you and your delegation.”

In a very short reaction, the president of the Senate, Bukola Saraki, expressed gratitude to God that the vice president survived the incident.

"I join all Nigerians in thanking Almighty God for sparing the life of Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, who survived a helicopter crash over Kabba, Kogi state today," he said.

Reacting to the incident also, the immediate past governor of Ekiti state, Ayodele Fayose, congratulated Osinbajo and thanked God for sparing the vice president.

"I rejoice with VP Yemi Osinbajo and thank God for keeping him alive today. I wish him quick recovery from whatever minor injuries he could have sustained in the crash.

"For me, sanctity of life goes beyond politics and I pray that God will continue to safeguard his life," Fayose said.
