PDP asks INEC to disqualify Buhari, gives reason

- The PDP has called on INEC to disqualify President Buhari from February 16 presidential election

- The party’s national chairman, Uche Secondus, accused the president of bringing mercenaries and foreigners to influence the election

- Secondus’ statement is in reaction to the presence of two governors from the Niger Republic during Buhari’s campaign in Kano

The main opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to disqualify President Muhammadu Buhari from the 2019 presidential election for bringing ‘mercenaries’ to influence the election.

The Cable reports that the opposition party’s national chairman, Uche Secondus, demanded the president’s disqualification during the party’s presidential campaign in Enugu state, on Friday, February 1.

Secondus claimed that President Buhari brought in foreigners from outside the country to influence the election in his favour during his campaign in Kano state.

Legit.ng had reported that two governors from the Niger Republic, Issa Moussa of Zinder and Zakiri Umar of Maradi, were present at President Buhari’s campaign in Kano.

Secondus said: “Now on behalf of our great party, let me warn INEC, that what we witnessed yesterday at Buhari’s rally in Kano is the worse that ever happened since the history of this country where mercenaries and government officers like governors and president of other countries came in their numbers from Niger Republic and Chad.

“They came with monies and mercenaries to influence elections in Nigeria. All the papers have reported it.

“Now we ask, INEC, the unbiased umpire, to disqualify Buhari for bringing mercenaries to influence elections in Nigeria.

“INEC better be warned, you cannot rig these elections, we have won these elections, everywhere we have been, we have attracted more youth and women than APC.”

The PDP presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, in his speech at the campaign, urged Igbo people not to miss the opportunity of producing the next vice president.
