2019: CAN charges Buhari to keep his promises on credible elections

- President Buhari has been commended by CAN for his promise to make the next elections smooth and free of violence

- The president was also asked to ensure that he fulfill all the promises he made towards the conduct of the elections

- The Christian association also called on security agencies not to make themselves ready tools for election malpractice

The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has praised President Muhammadu Buhari for his promised commitment towards ensuring that the next general elections are free of hitches, fair and credible.

The commendation for the president was made known through a communique by the association after its first quarter meeting on Thursday, January 31, and it was signed by both Pastor Adebayo Oladeji, the spokesman of CAN president, Dr. Samson Olasupo Ayokunle, Daily Trust reports.

CAN also called on president Buhari to ensure that all his promises towards making the elections free of any kind of violence are kept.

The CAN president said: “The Association calls on the INEC, the police and other security agents not to make themselves available to be used for rigging or any form of electoral malpractice by the politicians. No voter or election observer must be intimidated or harassed throughout the period of the election.

“We equally urge politicians to run away from vote buying while the electorates should not allow anybody to buy their votes.”

Recall that Legit.ng earlier reported that the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, stated that if he loses the 2019 presidential election, he would concede defeat if the exercise is adjudged free and fair.

The former vice president made the comment when he appeared alongside his running mate, Peter Obi, at a town hall meeting on Wednesday night, January 30.
