- The forthcoming general elections organised by the INEC will be handled by the NYSC
- According to the coordinator of NYSC in FCT, Bello Balama, the electoral empire used the corps in 2011, 2015 repeatedly and even now
- Balama, however, advised the corps members to adhere to the rules no matter how tasking it may be
The coordinator of NYSC in FCT, Bello Balama, said on Thursday, January 31, that the corps was the agency to handle general elections being organised by the Independent Electoral Commission (INEC) in the country.
Ballama said this during an assessment visit to GSS Wuse, one of the training centres for INEC ad-hoc officials, for the upcoming general elections.
He enjoined the corps members to be transparent and patriotic in serving their fatherland saying “Worldwide there can be no better organisation that can handle the INEC elections than the NYSC. They (electoral empire) used the NYSC in 2011, 2015 repeatedly and even now.
''Don’t be compromised, don’t be tempted. What amount of money can solve your problems at the expense of violence? Don’t invite the devil’’
He also advised the corps members to adhere to the rules no matter how tasking it may be. Ballama said: “Whether it is from 6 a.m to 6 pm or 24 hours just do what you’re told. Nigeria in entirety will be proud of your participation towards nation building.”
He however frowned against improper dressing by some corps members and advised them to respect the dress code or risk sanctions.
Meanwhile, Legit.ng had reported that major general Suleiman Kazaure, the director general of National Youth Service Corps, solicited the protection of corps members by the police command and the 6 division of the Nigerian Army in Rivers state during the forthcoming general elections.
Kazaure made the request during his separate courtesy visits to the heads of the two security agencies in Port Harcourt on Thursday, January 24.
He commended the army and the police command in the state for the support they had been giving to the NYSC. According to Kazaure, the corps members are national assets on national assignment and needed to be protected.
