As mass defection hit the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Sokoto state, about 6442 members of the party have defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The defectors, including a former deputy controller of Nigerian Prisons Service, Alhaji Umaru Yari Sifawa, were welcomed to the APC by Senator Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko.
According to a statement by Bashir Rabe Mani, an aide of the APC leader, Senator Wamakko, the defectors were received during the flag off of its campaigns in Yabo and Bodinga towns, headquarters of Yabo, as well as Bodinga local governments of the state, respectively.
Sifawa who spoke to the press after the defection said they joined the APC sequel to the justice and equity prevalent in it, as well as the tangible achievements of President Muhammadu Buhari.
He said: ”I am truly and sincerely overwhelmed with the mammoth crowds of our supporters I have seen in the two local governments. It is heartwarming that, the party is united and strong in the two areas."
Meanwhile, Legit.ng earlier reported that the vice chairman of the Ebonyi state chapter of the APC, Samuel Ode-Oru, defected to the PDP ahead of the forthcoming 2019 general elections.
