Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo on Wednesday, January 30, urged the people of Esan West local government area of the state to vote for the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the forthcoming general elections.
Obaseki hinged his reasons on the party’s leadership style as people-oriented. He noted that the council needed to bounce back to its past glory of development as recorded during the era of late Governor Ambrose Alli, at the party’s campaign rally in Ekpoma.
News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the governor said he had decided to emulate the leadership style of late Ambrose Alli, from the council area, who prioritised development for people of the state during his tenure as governor.
He described Alli as one of the best governors the state had ever had, saying he had chosen him as his mentor and was determined to surpass his achievements, using the party’s platform.
The governor said: “Alli did only one tenure and you can see the extent of development in the council. I am assuring that the party has one purpose which is to serve the people. I am not a governor to make money but to work for my people."
Obaseki noted that people of the council needed to align with the ruling party so they could continue to enjoy the dividends of democracy.
The governor assured the council members of more roads and water projects, saying support for Buhari and all the candidates of the party was the right decision to make.
The state chairman of the party, Anselm Ojezua, while receiving the defectors from the Social Democratic Party (SDP), said there was no gainsaying that the party was the party to support.

Ojezua said: “For a long time, we the people of the council have not felt the impact of government but in two years, the governor has brought good governance to this council.
“So, we must continue to support him by voting for all the candidates of the party in the forthcoming general elections. Today we are seeing the victory of the party going by the large turnout of people in this rally. This crowd must translate to votes on election day.’’
The party chairman of the council, Onabwekhlen Ehikioya, commended the governor, saying he had brought the needed change to the council.
The governor also led the party’s campaign train to Ehor, Uhunmwode local government area, where he assured of rehabilitation of roads and schools in the council.
Meanwhile, Legit.ng had had reported that Edo state governor Godwin Obaseki on Sunday, November 11, reacted to the conflict that recently brewed between Adams Oshiomhole, the APC national chairman and some governors.
Obaseki made this known in Benin City at the Church of God Mission during a thanksgiving service to mark his second year in office. He claimed that the governors were not in good terms with Oshiomhole due to some changes that he has introduced to the party.
