- Etim Inyang Jnr, a former board member of the NDDC, promises Obong Nsima Ekere, the APC governorship candidate, massive votes
- The son of a former inspector general of police says he is not ashamed to follow Obong Nsima Ekere as the election draws near
Ahead of the presidential and governorship elections in Nigeria, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has reportedly lost a chieftain, Etim Inyang Jnr, and 2,000 members to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in Akwa Ibom state.
Inyang Jnr, Legit.ng learnt, was a former commissioner representing Akwa Ibom state on the board of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC).
Daily Trust reports that Inyang is the son of a former Inspector-General of Police (IGP), late Chief Etim Inyang, and that he was the one that led the PDP members to defect to the APC during a campaign rally in Mbo local government area of the state.
Inyang reportedly told the crowd at the venue that he defected to support Obong Nsima Ekere, the APC governorship candidate, ahead of the election.
“I am borrowing a leaf from Apostle Paul in the Bible who said that he was not ashamed to follow the gospel of Jesus Christ.
“I am not ashamed to follow Obong Nsima Ekere from the bottom of my heart because he is the one to take us to the next level,” he said just as he assured Ekere that he would win Mbo’s 51,112 votes.
Legit.ng earlier reported that the speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara, officially announced his defection to the PDP on Tuesday, January 29.
The speaker was before the announcement, a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC). The official declaration of membership of APC was made at the plenary session held on Tuesday, January 29.
It should be noted, however, that Dogara and Bukola Saraki, the Senate president, had reportedly defected from APC in July 2018 without any formal announcement.
Members of Dogara’s new party, PDP, were agog as they welcomed him into the party.
Legit.ng also reported that about 2,509 members of the Peoples Democrat Party (PDP) on Monday, January 28, defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Sandamu local government area of Katsina state.
Governor Aminu Masari received the defectors in Sandamu during his electioneering campaign in the area.
He said his administration would soon embark on general renovation of Sandamu general hospital and construct township roads across eleven electoral wards in the area.
