- Yakubu Dogara has officially announced his defection from the APC to the PDP
- Dogara made the announcement on the floor of the House of Representatives during a plenary session
- Members of the PDP in the House went into jubilation as they welcomed him
The speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara, officially announced his defection to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Tuesday, January 29.
The speaker was before the announcement, a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC). The official declaration of membership of APC was made at the plenary session held on Tuesday, January 29, Punch reports.
It should be noted, however, that Dogara and Bukola Saraki, the Senate president, had reportedly defected from APC in July 2018 without any formal announcement.
Members of Dogara’s new party, PDP, were agog as they welcomed him into the party.
Recall that Legit.ng had reported that Yakubu Dogara, said his return to the PDP was not because he was denied ticket to contest election on the platform of the APC.
Dogara stated this on Thursday, September 20, 2018, at the PDP National Secretariat, Abuja, where he was accompanied by his supporters to submit his nomination and expression of interest forms to contest for the Bogoro/Dass/Tafawa-Balewa federal constituency election in 2019.

The speaker said that he left PDP to the APC believing that they were teaming together with spirited people to build a new Nigeria, but the APC did not trust those that joined the party from the PDP.
