Chief of Army Staff Buratai bags Heroes award

- The National Council of Women Society has presented the Chief of Army Staff with a 'Heroes' award

- The president of the group said the award was in recognition of the courageous and exemplary leadership by Tukur Buratai

- Members of the organisation were thanked for their kind gesture and for deeming it fit to present an award of such magnitude to the COAS

The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Tukur Yusufu Buratai, has been presented with a 'Heroes' award by the National Council of Women Society (NCWS), Yobe state branch. regional reporter in Borno, Ndahi Inusa, reports that the presentation was made on Monday, January 28, at the at headquarters sector 2, Operation LAFIYA DOLE, Damaturu.

It was gathered that while, making the presentation to the COAS, through the acting commander sector 2, Operation LAFIYA DOLE, Brigadier General, Mohammed Dala, the president of NCWS, Hajiya Halima Joda, emphasised that the award was in recognition of the courageous and exemplary leadership by the COAS and the professionalism exhibited by the troops of the Nigerian Army since his assumption of office.

She further stated that, “The efforts of the Nigerian Army cannot be overemphasized in all aspects of live today in Nigeria, more especially in the areas of protecting the territories of our Nation from all forms of terrorists attack."

Receiving the award on behalf of the COAS, the acting commander, sector 2 Operation LAFIYA DOLE, Dala, appreciated members of the organisation for their kind gesture and for deeming it fit to present an award of such magnitude to the COAS.

He further said that the award would serve as morale booster to officers and soldiers of the Nigerian Army, who are currently confronting various security issues across the country.

Brigadier General Dala later presented sewing and grinding machines to members of the group and urged them to use the items donated by the Nigerian Army, department of Civil-Military Affairs, for the empowerment of the less privileged and widows in the society.

In related development, the Theatre Commander of Operation Lafiya Dole, Maj-Gen Bension, Akinroluyo, has said that security is the responsibility of all in the counter-insurgency operations to protect lives and property in northeast.

He said the Army alone cannot secure people’s lives and property in the ongoing fight against Boko Haram insurgency in Borno state.

Akinroluyo spoke on Monday, January 28, when he paid an official visit to Governor Kashim Shettima at Government House, Maiduguri.

His words: “I was promoted to Captain in the Nigeria Army in 1996, while I was serving in Maiduguri, Borno state. While in Jos, Plateau state, I was elevated to Major and now promoted to Maj-Gen when we recovered the body of slain Maj-Gen. Idris Alkali (rtd) in Jos.

“Today (Monday) I’m here to officially present myself to you as the new Theatre Commander, since you’re the Chief Security Officer of the state in the ongoing military operations. We are happy with what you have been doing in the ongoing operations against Boko Haram terrorism and insurgency."

He, however, noted that no one wants to be an Internal Displaced Person (IDP) in any of the camps in Maiduguri.

He thanked the governor for the support to Army in the ongoing counter-insurgency operations.

“I want to see peace not only in Borno state, but the entire northeast region, comprising six states that lost many lives and property,” said Akinroluyo.

Governor Shettima said that the main goal of his administration was to restore and stabilize peace in the northeast.

He disclosed that the state government is going to launch new a vigilante group, comprising local hunters and voluntary youths vigilantes.

“After the launching of this security outfit, I will hand them over to you to complement Operation Lafiya Dole in the state,” he said.

According to him, the vigilante group with 50 vehicles is to secure people’s lives and property.

Meanwhile, had previously reported that the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General TY Buratai, on Saturday, January 26, commissioned the newly established Nigerian Army Vehicles Manufacturing Company (NAVMC) in Kaduna state.

The army chief also witnessed the take off of the production of the prototype of the light and heavy infantry vehicles at NAVMC located in the Rigachikun area of the state. ( -> We have updated to serve you better!
